In this scenario the filmmaker wanted a dramatic shot of a new race joining the Rebel Alliance. The shot composition was supposed to reference a classic piece of art in scope, drama and lighting. I chose one of my favorite painters of the 19th Century, David Roberts.
I took one of his paintings from Egypt and used that as the basis for my composition and lighting. The idea was to create a mood for the importance of these moment, which is all it needed to convey even in its rough state. We also had to add in some of the new vehicles designed for this new race.
The second image was the result of the filmmaker changing their mind at the last second; primarily changing the environment.
